Steam cleaning, also known as hot water extraction, is an effective process. However, the main issue is that it uses way too much water and soaks the carpets unless it’s done perfectly. Excessive moisture can compromise the carpet’s backing and cause wicking, where dirt and stains that were removed during cleaning resurface as the carpet dries. Steam-cleaned carpets also take a long time to dry, usually between 8 to 24 hours, and can sometimes take as long as 48 hours if not performed correctly.
